Shipping Costs

PackageDeliveryTruck

You hate paying them and we hate charging them. But they are a fact of life. In the last few years they have seemed to be going up exponentially, but there are a few things you can consider that may help ease the pain.

Combine Orders

While this may be somewhat obvious, it’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to reduce shipping costs. If you order one frame on Monday and another one on Thursday, you will probably end up paying double the shipping cost. Unless you have a rush order (and hopefully charged the customer extra), hold off as long as you can to put your orders in. You can also ask us to hold an order that hasn’t shipped yet and ship a second order together. There will still be our standard $7.50 Handling Charge for each one, and the first order will most likely be a bit delayed.

Short Length

The most egregious shipping costs are for the smaller length orders. UPS charges an “Additional Handling Charge” on any package that is 48” or more. Furthermore, they charge for a minimum weight of 40#. So if you order 20-30-40’ of a moulding, your shipping costs will likely be between $75-160, depending on your location. However, if we cut it to 46” or less, that same package would be $25-60, or a savings of $50-100!

Our sticks are mostly 4’-8’ but we have introduced a program where we will cut our sticks in the following manner:

4’         46”
5’         30” & balance
6’         30” & balance
7’         40” & balance
8’         2 pieces at 46”

Just ask us to use a “46BOX”. This does take us a bit of extra time, so there will be a charge of $7.50 per order. However, you can see that it could end up saving you a substantial amount. Please note that as with all length orders, you cannot request specific starting lengths, and there is no deviation from the above list for this program. If you have requirements that don’t fit the above offer, you may be better off ordering Straight Cut Chops.

Straight Cut Chops

If you are ordering a small amount of length to do just one frame and plan to keep the extra “in case you can use it later”, you may be better off ordering a Straight Cut Chop. We treat the order like a mitered chop, meaning that you will get 4 matching rails, ready for you to miter to dimension. You provide the final frame size, and we will calculate the final OD and add 1/2″ to the size.

Fill the Box

If you are ordering something that you use regularly, and/or in combination with something else, you can say “Fill the Box”. For example:

40’ 120 Raw Maple
60’ 130 Raw Cherry
Fill the box with 960-200 Strainer

Or:

Fill a box half and half with 960-150 and 961-200 Strainer

Et cetera.
