The best of both worlds
Most people (rightfully so) think of Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) as either the inexpensive “hard pine” which is the primary species used to make pressure treated lumber, or the Antique Reclaimed old growth material that’s as hard as Oak.
We have managed to develop sources with some mills that have access to forests old enough to have developed the orange/brown heartwood that is both harder and more beautiful than the sapwood which is typically all you see with SYP. And because of how the logs are cut into planks, the small amount of sapwood present is in quartersawn form which is much harder than the “flatsawn” variety that you will generally find in regular SYP.
